How Canadian NHL teams fared last night

The Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets were the only two Canadian NHL teams in action on Friday. Here's a quick look at how they fared:

Carolina turns on the Jets

The Carolina Hurricanes built up an early lead that was too much for the Jets to overcome, scoring four goals on their first nine shots in a 5-3 win.

Connor Hellebuyck allowed three of those goals on six shots and got the hook less than five minutes into the game.

Winnipeg mounted a comeback in the third period, striking three times, but Carolina's Andrej Nestrasil put the game out of reach with his seventh of the season at the 18:40 mark.

Blue Jackets douse Flames

Columbus Blue Jackets rookie William Karlsson ended a major slump, scoring twice in an eventual 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames.

Prior to Friday night, the 23-year-old had only one goal in his last 30 games. The Blue Jackets have won four of their last five games, which were all against Canadian-based opponents.

Jiri Hudler had the lone goal for the Flames, who were frustrated by Blue Jackets goalie Joonas Korpisalo. Calgary outshot Columbus 31-18.
