There were five Canadian NHL teams in action on Thursday night, with the Ottawa Senators the lone club coming off a victory.
Here's a quick look at how they fared:
Ceci gets an 'A'
Young defenceman Cody Ceci's second goal in three games stood up as the winner in Ottawa's 4-2 doubling of Carolina, marking the first time the Senators have posted back-to-back victories since Jan. 16-18. The Hurricanes lost for the first time in three starts and failed to earn a point for the first time in six contests.
Bittersweet night for Blueshirts
Derek Stepan scored the winning goal in the New York Rangers' 4-2 decision over the Maple Leafs, but much of the water-cooler talk Friday will be about Toronto forward Leo Komarov and a potential suspension after he was ejected for a first-period elbow to the head of Rangers defenceman Ryan McDonagh.
Ducks keep rolling
A poor home record and a visit from surging Anaheim was a recipe for disaster for the Vancouver Canucks, who put forth a decent effort versus the Ducks but dropped a 5-2 decision to fall to 9-13-5 this season at Rogers Arena. Ryan Getzlaf, Rickard Rakell and Sami Vatanen each had a goal and an assist for Anaheim, which finished a seven-game road trip with a 5-1-1 record and improved to 11-1-1 over its last 13 outings.
Stammer shootout hero
Steven Stamkos had little trouble blocking out trade rumours, scoring in regulation and the winning goal in Round 5 of the shootout as Tampa Bay outlasted the Winnipeg Jets 6-5. Stamkos' first-period marker was his 23rd of the season and 299th in his NHL career. Trailing 4-1 in the third period, the Jets scored four goals to force overtime, led by Andrew Ladd's pair.
Wild unbeaten with Torchetti
The Minnesota Wild scored two power-play goals en route to a 5-2 win at Edmonton, their third in as many starts under new head coach John Torchetti. Matt Dumba and Thomas Vanek paced the attack with a goal and an assist each while Connor McDavid and Nail Yakupov replied for the Oilers, who have lost three straight and six of their last seven games.
