Oilers' duo thwarts Leafs
Connor McDavid and Jordan Eberle both had career nights in Edmonton's 5-2 win over the Leafs.
McDavid totalled five points and now has 12 points in six games since returning from injury, while Eberle recorded his first NHL hat trick.
The Leafs remain last in the NHL with 47 points, the Sabres have 48, and the Oilers 49.
Avs spoil Phaneuf's home debut with Sens
Dion Phanuef chipped in two assists while paired with Erik Karlsson on Ottawa's power play unit, but it wasn't enough as the Avalanche took the contest 4-3.
Jarome Iginla scored twice for Colorado and Semyon Varlamov made 26 saves to help snap a four-game slide.
Jets can't keep pace with Bruins' offence
A five-goal first period saw the Jets answer the first two Bruins goals but the offence dried up after that in a 6-2 home ice loss to Boston.
Patrice Bergeron led the Bruins attack with a pair of goals, while Brett Connolly added three assists.
Bryan Little and Nikolaj Ehlers matched the first two Boston goals for the Jets, but Brad Marchand's goal late in the first period spelled the end of the night for Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck.
Boston scored the only three goals of the third period to rebound from a 9-2 home-ice loss to Los Angeles on Tuesday.
Jonas Hiller bails out Flames
Jonas Hiller came off the bench to replace an injured Karri Ramo and backstopped the Flames to a 6-5 shootout victory over the Sharks in San Jose.
The teams combined for 10 goals before Ramo left after a goal-mouth crash with an apparent lower-body injury.
Hiller immediately faced a 5-on-3 Sharks power play and made several key saves plus had some help from the crossbar in keeping San Jose off the scoresheet.
Jiri Hudler had the shootout winner for the Flames (25-25-3) who won their third in a row.
