George Kennedy has died at the age of 91.

The actor - who won an Oscar for the 1967 movie Cool Hand Luke before going on to star in The Guns of the Magnificent Seven and the Naked Gun series - passed away on Sunday in Boise, Idaho. That was the same night of the 88th Academy Awards.

George's grandson Cory Schenke confirmed the death to TMZ and said the actor had been in hospice care for the last month.

His wife Joan died last year and Cory revealed that his grandfather's health had been failing ever since.

George's movies also include Spartacus, Lonely Are the Brave, The Sons of Katie Elder, The Dirty Dozen, Earthquake and Death on the Nile. He last worked with Mark Wahlberg in the 2014 film The Gambler.

He previously spoke of his pride in his Oscar winning role in Cool Hand Luke, admitting it changed his career.

Kennedy also had a bust TV career. He starred for three seasons as Carter McKay in the CBS drama Dallas.

And he appeared on The Andy Griffith Show, Peter Gunn, Bonanza, Maverick, McHale’s Navy and Gunsmoke.

As an author, Kennedy wrote three books, including the 1983 murder mystery Murder On Location."

In 2011 he came out with the autobiography Trust Me.

The actor, who was born in New York City in 1925, began as a radio performer but set his entertainment career aside during World War II, serving with the U.S. Army for 16 years.
