How Canadian NHL teams fared last night

Two of Canada's seven NHL teams, Vancouver and Montreal, were in action on Sunday night. Here's a quick look at how they fared:

Habs no match for Blackhawks

Montreal didn't have an answer for NHL leading scorer Patrick Kane or the Chicago Blackhawks, who rolled to their franchise record-tying 11th win in a row, 5-2 over the winless-in-four Canadiens. Kane had a goal and assist to pad his lead atop the scoring race to 13 points over Dallas' Jamie Benn, while Marian Hossa added three points.

Lars Eller and Max Pacioretty scored for Montreal, which dropped to 2-9-1 in its last 12 road games.

Miller time in Brooklyn

Ryan Miller continued his improved play in the Canucks net, making 47 saves in regulation and overtime to lead Vancouver in a 2-1 shootout victory over the hometown New York Islanders. Miller denied Frans Neilsen, Kyle Okposo and John Tavares in the penalty shot competition.

Radim Vrbata had the lone shootout goal while rookie defenceman Ben Hutton scored in regulation for the Canucks, who have won two straight for the first time since Dec. 22-26. Forward Henrik Sedin left the game in the first period with an upper-body injury and didn't return.

Crosby comin' on

Sidney Crosby snapped a four-game goal drought with a pair in Pittsburgh's 5-0 win over Carolina, extending his points streak to three games. After a slow start to the season, Crosby has picked up his game of late, with 17 points in 15 contests under recently hired head coach Mike Sullivan. The Penguins captain is now 29th in league scoring with 36 points.
