Although the Montreal Impact has denied it, reports that Didier Drogba is considering a return to Chelsea — this time as assistant coach — are getting harder to ignore.
French soccer magazine France Football reported that the Impact's star scorer is in negotiations with the Premier League club, for which he played for 10 seasons.
According to the report, Drogba was at Stamford Bridge this weekend, watching a match alongside owner Roman Abramovich and new team manager Guus Hiddink.
Russian billionaire Abramovich is shaking up the team's coaching staff, having fired Jose Mourinho and replaced him with Hiddink.
On Sunday, Hiddink himself confirmed to ESPN he would like to see the 37-year-old Ivorian join his backroom staff.
"We definitely intend to get him involved," the Dutch manager said. "We want to get important players involved with the club they care about. Drogba's heart is with Chelsea."
On Friday, the Impact denied on Twitter that Chelsea had contacted Drogba or the club. Drogba's contract with Montreal ends in December 2016.
The rumour about Didier Drogba is unfounded. No contact has been made with the club or him. #IMFC
