Canadian Ali Nullmeyer takes silver in slalom at Youth Olympics

Canada took home another medal at the Youth Olympics on Thursday, with Ali Nullmeyer finishing second in the ladies' slalom.

The 17-year-old Toronto-native was sitting in third after her first run of 54.78 seconds. But her second run of 50.02 vaulted her ahead of Austrian Nadine Fest and into the silver medal position with a total time of 1:44.80.

The medal is Canada's first silver and fifth overall at the Youth Olympics.

Aline Danioth of Switzerland took home the gold, as she had the fastest times in both runs at 53.33 and 49.68, which put her 1.59 seconds ahead of Nullmeyer for the win.

Canadian men's hockey advance to semis

As everyone would hope from the international hockey powerhouse, Canada trounced Norway 6-0 to advance to the semifinals at the Youth Olympics.

Conor Roberts' power play goal six minutes into the first period gave Canada a 1-0 lead and they never looked back.

Canada moves on to battle Finland on the semifinal match Friday at 11 a.m. ET. The U.S. is set to meet Russia.

Carson Focht, Luka Burzan and Jared McIsaac scored second period goals, and two more third period goals from Allen McShane and Benoit-Olivier Groulx gave Canada the win by a touchdown.

"We played a solid game; the key was to make sure we built momentum for tomorrow's semifinal, and we did that by having good pressure on the puck and a good presence at the net, which made life difficult for Norway's goalie," said head coach Martin Raymond. "Our special teams were good, and I am really happy with the overall effort."

Canada finished first in the group stage with a 3-0-0-1 record, with their loss coming against Russia. They defeated the United States, Finland in their other preliminary matches.
