Whelan and her son moved to Los Angeles in 2012. It is not known when Jill and Michael separated.

The former child model has found work with a podcast, however, but it is believe her income from that is either low or nonexistent.

In November 2014 the cast had another reunion in Ft Lauderdale for a Love Boat-themed party celebrating Princess Cruises’ 50th anniversary and the series’ role in the cruise line’s decades-long history.
Along with Jill were stars Gavin MacLeod (Captain Stubing), Fred Grandy (Gopher, the chief purser), Ted Lange (Isaac, the bartender), Bernie Kopell (Doc, the ship's doctor) and Lauren Tewes (cruise director, Julie).
They all pulled a lever that sent 50 champagne bottles smashing against the ship's hull as a nod to the company's anniversary celebration.
