How Canadian NHL teams fared last night

Five of Canada's seven NHL teams were in action on Saturday night. Here's a quick look at how they fared:

Zibanejad leads comeback

The Los Angeles Kings have lost just 12 times in regulation in 43 games this season and twice to Ottawa by identical 5-3 scores. The latest saw the Senators erase a 3-1 deficit in the third period with four unanswered goals, with Mika Zibanejad posting the winner to help Ottawa halt a two-game skid. It was his second goal and fifth point versus L.A. this season.

Lost somewhat in the victory was Alex Chiasson's third goal of the season for the Sens and his first in 27 outings after four games as a healthy scratch. Earlier in the day, the Kings announced they had signed Anze Kopitar to a eight-year contract extension.

Oilers take provincial battle

Teddy Purcell beat Flames goalie Jonas Hiller, improving to 7-for-26 in his NHL career in the shootout and leading the hometown Edmonton Oilers to a 2-1 victory. Mark Fayne scored midway through the third period to end Hiller's shutout streak at 114 minutes 58 seconds after Calgary's Sam Bennett scored his sixth goal in the past three games midway through the first.

Overtime Blues

Jori Lehtera scored at 2:04 of overtime to lead the injury ravaged St. Louis Blues to a 4-3 victory over Montreal, which has dropped three in a row and clings to a one-point lead over New Jersey for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban extended his points streak to four games with a second-period goal against Brian Elliott, who made a career-high 46 saves.

Redemption in Beantown

Maple Leafs' killer Brad Marchand got the last laugh, scoring with 47 seconds remaining in regulation to lift Boston to a 3-2 victory over Toronto after being denied earlier in the game when video review determined he was offside. Jonathan Bernier allowed goals in the opening minute of the first and second periods but finished with a season-high 42 saves in the Toronto net.
