San Diego Gulls forward Brian McGrattan was taken out of an AHL game on a stretcher at the conclusion of a startling fight Tuesday night.
McGrattan exchanged a flurry of punches with San Antonio Rampage forward Daniel Maggio before being knocked out cold.
The 34-year-old former Calgary Flame crashed face-first to the ice and remained unconscious.

McGrattan was removed from the game, but the Gulls later tweeted he was conscious and had full movement in all of his extremities.
INJURY UPDATE: Brian McGrattan is conscious, alert and has full movement.

McGrattan, who is no stranger to hockey fights, was traded from Calgary to the Anaheim Ducks over the summer.
The incident is reminiscent of NHL enforcer George Parros' face-first collision during a fight with Colton Orr in a game between the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs in 2013.
