Jennifer Abel won the women's three-metre springboard crown in a thrilling final on Sunday at the Winter Nationals diving competition.
The 24-year-old Laval, Que., native came up big on her last dive to finish with 375.85 points. Diving Canada's female athlete of the year beat out her synchro partner by only four points to take the title.
Pamela Ware, of Beloeil, Que., took the silver at 372.65 and Calgary's Caeli McKay was third with an overall score of 294.25.
''I met all my objectives today in terms of the quality of my dives and the technique,'' Abel said. ''Pamela and I were in a real battle and it was fun to see us both dive so well with no room for error.''
Abel and Ware qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics at August's world championships.
On the men's 10m tower, Maxim Bouchard, of St. Constant, Que., was first by another narrow margin at 455.25.
He edged out Vincent Riendeau of Pointe-Claire, Que., who took second with a score of 452.00. Edmonton's Ethan Pitman was third at 380.50.
Both Bouchard and Riendeau qualified for the FINA World Cup in February, which is also an Olympic qualifying event.
Bouchard tore ligaments in his right thumb recently when his hands were not positioned properly upon entry during a training session. He will undergo surgery at the end of the 2016 season.
''It's been awhile since I've posted two strong scores in one day [preliminaries and final],'' Bouchard said.
''I had been working on a new dive, but the injury changed that plan. Still my dives today were better and my take-offs were higher so the focus now is on making those small corrections.''
