- The striking interior is studded with gold while the interior is a vivid red - both inspired by rock music
It might look more at home on a Hollywood boulevard but this gold-studded museum is nestled among factory buildings and old warehouses in Roskilde, Denmark.
The new Ragnarock museum is dedicated to pop, rock and youth culture, tracing their history from the 1950s until now.
Designed by architectural firms MVRDV and COBE, it features an enormous 65 foot long cantilever that overshadows its entrance.
Ragnarock museum has just opened in Roskilde, Denmark. Its striking exterior, entirely paved with gold anodised aluminium, pays homage to the glamorous outfits worn by rock stars
In contrast, its vivid red interior, also studded, is supposed to evoke the velvet lining of a guitar case. The design is a far cry from the cement factory, which had previously occupied the site
The 65-foot long cantilever auditorium hangs precariously over the entrance of the building, creating a striking silhouette
The museum is an 'architectural embodiment of rock music' according to MVRDV and features a museum, auditorium and a bar.

Both of these are a far cry from the cement factory, which had previously occupied the site.
Dezeen has described the new museum as a 'tribute to the trashy glamour of rock and roll'.
Jacob van Rijs, founding partner at MVRDV, said: 'Ragnarock is the translation of rock music into architecture; the energy, the defiance, the statement. Loud and in your face!'
A guest's journey from the entrance, up to the stage and finally down to the bar is said to represent the rise and fall of a rock star
The site had previously been a cement factory and until the rest of the complex is finished, the gold museum stands out against the warehouses and factory buildings around it
The whole experience is intended to be immersive, from the red carpet entrance to the performance space, which is housed in the cantilever.

There will also be recording studios, a library and an outdoor music venue.
The site had previous been used by artists, skaters and musicians and the architects hope that the space will continue to foster their creativity.
MVRDV and COBE won the commission for the project through a competition in 2011 according to Design Boom.
The original proposal was to have a five-storey building, which covers about 33,000 square foot of space.
There will be two other building joining Ragnarock to formed a new ROCKmagneten, or rock mangnet, which will be a new music district for the city.
One will be the new Roskilde Festival Folkschool, which will include student accommodation, while the other will be the headquarters of the internationally acclaimed Roskilde Festival.
