Is Sidney Crosby an all-star now?
For those who need a refresher, the Pittsburgh Penguins captain was left off the Metropolitan Division's 10-man roster on Jan. 6 for the recent NHL All-Star Game in Nashville.
It was the 10th time in 11 seasons Crosby missed the event. He participated in the 2007 all-star game but has missed three others due to injury and five while competing at Olympic tournaments.
Crosby, however, was in all-star form on Monday night, extending his points streak to 11 games (12 goals, 22 points) with a four-point performance in a 6-2 win over Anaheim that included two assists and a pair of breakaway goals, the second scored while Crosby was being hooked to the ice by Ducks defenceman Cam Fowler.
About as nice of a goal as you're ever going to see. This guy is good. Quite good.https://t.co/SK9JjAYNLz

"I just tried to fight through those hooks," Crosby, who also extended his points streak to eight games (15 points) versus Anaheim, told reporters. "I felt like I was a couple of times. He [Fowler] kind of kept reeling me in, so I was just happy to get one in there."
Late in the second period, Crosby gave the Penguins a 4-1 advantage. After blocking a Ryan Getzlaf shot at the Pittsburgh blue-line, he corralled the puck and broke in alone on Ducks goalie John Gibson, snapping shot between his legs.
Sidney Crosby... ever heard of him?https://t.co/NGgG0kyyfe

"He's the best player in the world for a reason. He scores goals almost at will if you let him," Getzlaf said of Crosby, who mustered only nine points in his first 18 games this season but has scored at least one goal in a career-high nine consecutive home games, the longest since Mario Lemieux's 11-game streak in the 1995-96 campaign.
Six days after his all-star snub, Crosby began the current streak with two assists in a 3-2 overtime loss to Carolina.

Crosby has multi-point performances in six of the 11 games, including a pair of four-point efforts in his last two outings. On Feb. 2, Sid the Kid notched his first natural hat trick in more than five years in Pittsburgh's 6-5 win over Ottawa.
Monday's showing allowed Crosby to climb five spots to fifth in NHL scoring with 53 points on 24 goals and 29 assists. Chicago's Patrick Kane leads the race with 76 points, followed by Senators defenceman Erik Karlsson (59) and the Dallas Stars tandem of Jamie Benn (59) and Tyler Seguin (56).
