Connor McDavid didn't take long to find the score sheet in his return to the Edmonton Oilers, scoring in the second period to break a 1-1 tie after missing 37 games with a broken collarbone.
After the Oilers failed to score in the first period, despite outshooting the visiting Blue Jackets 17-6, Edmonton evened the score on a knuckleball shot by Eric Gryba at 3:01 of the second.
Midway through the period McDavid took a pass, split two Blue Jackets and zoomed in on Columbus goaltender Joonas Korpisalo whom he deked and beat easily with his sixth goal of the season.
Later in the period McDavid assisted on Benoit Pouliot's power play goal and 29 seconds later the Oilers scored their fourth goal of the period, compliments of Leon Draisaitl for a 4-1 advantage.
Before he was injured McDavid had 12 points in 13 games as the Oilers skated to a 5-8-0 record. While he was recovering from his injury, the Oilers posted a record of 14-18-5.
