Canada's Dufour Lapointe sisters, Kingsbury reach podium at World Cup moguls event

Canada's mogul ski team continued their success on the World Cup stage with a medal of each colour Thursday night in Deer Valley, Utah. 

Montreal's Justine Dufour-Lapointe was the top performer, improving on last week's silver result with a gold-medal finish in the women's event. Justine's score of 77.80 was just enough to secure victory over Kazakhstan's Yulia Galysheva, who earned silver with 77.75.

"I am very happy overall with my day, it was not easy and the course is a good challenge for us. It requires performance, clean skiing, big jumps and good speed," said Justine.

"The course is physically demanding. Throughout the day, I increased my rhythm and I have to admit that I am really happy with my skiing."

Chloe Dufour-Lapointe trended downwards slightly from Calgary's golden performance, ending the competition in third with a score of 77.11.

Maxime Dufour-Lapointe barely missed the podium in fourth place, while Audrey Robichaud and Andi Naude missed the super final with 11th and 13th finishes, respectively. 

With the win, Justine has overtaken Chloe in the standings by a score of 304 to 300. The two have been in a battle all season for the yellow bib and the overall points lead. 

"I was a little surprised with the final results. I wasn't necessarily expecting that," said Chloe.

"I look forward to watching the videos to better understand what the judges didn't like about my final run. In any case, it motivates me to ski even better on Saturday and not give the judges the choice to give me the win. It make me more hungry for the dual moguls competition."

For the men, current overall World Cup points leader Mikael Kingsbury of Deux-Montagnes, Que., earned silver with a score of 82.75 behind Australia's Matt Graham. Sweden's Ludvig Fjallstrom rounded out the podium with a bronze. 

"I was able to manage the pressure of this level of racing quite well. I am happy to be on the podium with Matt [Graham] and Ludvig [Fjallstrom], two of my best friends on the World Cup circuit," said Kingsbury.

"I would have liked to continue winning and have a perfect season, but it's still second place and I can't be disappointed with that."
