Ryanair will start updating its plane cabins this month.
Gone is the bright yellow that some passengers found garish. In are new “slimline” seats that will give passengers more legroom and larger windows.
Ryanair's latest Boeing 737-800 aircraft will have modern LED lighting in the ceiling, which can also be seen in other planes that have fitted Boeing Sky Interiors.
The planes will also feature new overhead lockers, allowing more headroom, while Ryanair staff will be wearing new uniforms.
“Redesigned interiors are being introduced this year,” said an airline spokesman, “where we’ll be toning down the yellow and installing new imagery."

While the yellow that used to dazzle passengers is now largely absent from the cabins, some Twitter users felt that the redesign could go further.

There was also some concern that, while the slimline seats allow for more legroom, they might be more uncomfortable.

The seats are the same as those that other airlines, such as Lufthansa, have already adopted in economy class.

The updated cabins had been in discussion since 2014, when Michael O’Leary admitted he was responsible for putting yellow in cabins some 10 years ago, “it was designed to keep everything very bright,” he told the Irish Independent in September. “If we’re going to focus more and more, as we are, on the customer experience, maybe a little less in your face and the use of more subtle colours and better imaging."
He also said at the time that the airline would be looking at "something a bit more lively than just the yellow with the blue Ryanair logo. We’re looking at different alternatives such as photos of happy, smiley people, destinations – something a bit more visually interesting than just the traditional old logo.”
Ryanair said that the updated cabins will be fitted into its Boeing 737-800 aircraft delivered in January.
