Edmonton Oilers forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins suffered what coach Todd McLellan described as a "long-term injury" to his hand during Monday's 4-2 win at Florida.

Nugent-Hopkins was hurt while on penalty-killing duty early in the second when he blocked a shot by the Panthers' Dmitry Kulikov. He left the ice and did not return.

McLellan did not say how long Nugent-Hopkins would be out.

Nugent-Hopkins has eight goals and 22 assists in 46 games this season, the fifth in the NHL for the 2011 first-overall draft pick.

Edmonton (19-23-5) has the worst record in the Western Conference and has been without Connor McDavid, this year's top pick, since early November when he sustained a broken collarbone.
