The Montreal Canadiens were the lone Canadian squad not in action Thursday. Here's a quick look at how the six others fared:
Move over, Naslund
Daniel Sedin snapped a four-game goalless skid with a pair in the third period to become the Vancouver Canucks' all-time leader with 348, two more than Markus Naslund, and secure a 4-2 win at Boston. Jacob Markstrom turned aside 28 shots against the Bruins, including one from Bruins forward David Krejci, who returned to the lineup after a 10-game absence with an upper-body injury.
Torrid pace for Bennett
Sam Bennett paced the Calgary Flames attack with two goals in a 4-2 doubling of Columbus. The rookie centre has 13 goals on the season, eight of which have come in the past five games. Scott Hartnell recorded his first goal in eight games for the Blue Jackets, who lost goalie Sergei Bobrovsky to a lower-body injury in the second period.
1st-period explosion
New Jersey went to work quickly, scoring five times in the first period en route to a 6-3 win over the visiting Ottawa Senators. Travis Zajac notched his first goal in 28 games while linemate Joe Blandisi of Markham, Ont., collected his first NHL marker with the Devils on the power play. Senators goalie Craig Anderson was chased 14 minutes into the first after allowing four goals on seven shots.
Johansen paces Preds
Nashville's Ryan Johansen took advantage of the undermanned Jets, posting a goal and assist in a 4-1 win at Winnipeg. The former Columbus centre has three goals and nine points in seven games since a Jan. 6 trade. Rookie Nikolaj Ehlers had the lone goal for the Jets, who were minus ailing forwards Alex Burmistrov, Adam Lowry (upper body), Mark Scheifele (lower body) and Drew Stafford (upper body).
Stars end slide
Dallas jumped out to a 2-0 lead against the visiting Edmonton Oilers and hung on for a 3-2 victory, its first in five starts. Jason Spezza opened the scoring at 1:23 of the first period and has points in nine of his past 11 games while Jamie Benn made it 2-0 in the second with his 27th goal and 57th point in 48 games. The Stars have points in 16 of their last 17 home games against the Oilers.
Lack shuts door on Leafs
Jordan Staal scored the lone goal of the game at 2:54 of overtime to lift the Carolina Hurricanes to a 1-0 win over the Maple Leafs in Toronto. Eddie Lack kicked aside 32 shots for his first shutout as a Hurricane, who acquired the former Vancouver netminder last summer. Maple Leafs forward Brad Boyes skated in his 800th NHL game (208 goals, 495 points) and had one shot in nine minutes 22 seconds of ice time.
