A pair of Canadian teams had home dates Monday evening as the Flames welcomed the San Jose Sharks, while the Canucks had to face the streaking Florida Panthers. Here's how they fared last night.
Canucks end Panthers' streak in OT
The Canucks (17-16-10) scored late to tie it, and then scored again in overtime to top the Florida Panthers (25-12-5) and end Florida's 12-game winning streak, 3-2.
Vancouver's Jake Virtanen beat Roberto Luongo in the Panthers' net with the tying score at 17:22 of the third period.
Daniel Sedin potted the winner 2:21 into overtime with the Canucks on the power play. It was his 346th goal as a Canuck, tying Markus Naslund's club record for goals.
The teams skirmished at the end of the game as the Canucks celebrated and Derek Dorsett shoved Panthers' back-up goaltender Al Montoya.
Sharks add to Flames' home woes
A San Jose power play goal against the worst penalty-killing unit in the NHL and a fluke goal by Joel Ward spelled the difference as the Sharks (20-18-2) broke a 3-3 tie and defeated the Flames in Calgary 5-4.
It took only 34 seconds for Brent Burns to break the deadlock with a Sharks power play goal in their only manpower advantage of the night. Then Ward's shot deflected off Mark Giordano's leg for a two-goal edge for the visitors who withstood a late goal by Michael Ferland.
The Flames (19-20-2) lost their second in a row and fourth in five home starts.
