Quarterback Darian Durant has agreed to a new deal for 2016 with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Durant signed a multi-year contract extension with Saskatchewan after leading the club to just its fourth Grey Cup title in 2013 but has been hampered by injuries the past two seasons.

Durant suffered a season-ending elbow injury roughly midway through the 2014 campaign before rupturing his left Achilles tendon in Saskatchewan's 2015 season opener.

The restructuring of Durant's contract comes less than a week after Chris Jones, the Riders new head coach/GM, released slotback Weston Dressler and defensive end John Chick — both fan favourites — after saying the club was unable to successfully renegotiate new contracts for the two veterans.

Durant, 33, has spent his entire 10-year career with Saskatchewan, winning 54-of-98 starts with the CFL club.

The five-foot-11, 214-pound native of Florence, S.C., has thrown for 24,668 career yards and 135 TDs to rank third in Riders' history and has been part of two Grey Cup-winning teams (2007, '13).
