Direct Line Insurance Group said it estimated total claims of between £110m and £140m from the three storms that hit Britain in December.
The company, Britain’s largest motor insurer, said it expected claims in both its home and commercial divisions.
Home claims from the storms Desmond, Eva and Frank are likely to be £80m to £100m, compared with a normal annual level of claims from major weather events of about £80m.

Direct Line said the actual amount of insured losses will not be known for some time and these figures are current estimates only.
About 90% of the first damage assessment visits have been completed and all customers who can no longer live in their homes have been placed in alternative accommodation, the company said.
Claims in its commercial unit are expected to be between £30m and £40m, Direct Line said.
Britain’s insurers are expected to pay £1.3bn to cover damage caused by floods in December and early January, the Association of British Insurers said on Monday.
