Canada's men's basketball team will have a final chance to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics at one of three tournaments to be held in Italy, Serbia and the Philippines from July 4-10.
FIBA, the international governing body of the sport, announced the hosts on Tuesday. Only the winners of the tournaments will advance to the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The draw for the three tournaments will be conducted on Jan. 26.
Along with Canada, teams from Serbia, France, Greece, Italy, the Czech Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Angola, Tunisia, Senegal, Philippines, Iran, Japan, New Zealand, Latvia, Croatia and Turkey will take part in the qualifying tournaments.
The United States, Brazil, Australia, Nigeria, Venezuela, Argentina, Spain, Lithuania and China have already qualified.
Italy will stage the tournament in Turin, Serbia in Belgrade and the Philippines in Manila.
The Canadian men suffered a heart-breaking 79-78 loss to Argentina in the FIBA Americas tournament semifinal last summer when a win would have punched their ticket to Rio. Canada defeated Mexico in the bronze medal match but only the top two teams in the tournament, Venezuela and Argentina, earned berths in the 2016 Olympics.
