Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson are the most visible American Idol vets with an endless stream of magazine covers and red carpet appearances.
But those women were not the top earners of 2015 that have sprung from the Fox competition show.
Instead, that maxim goes to Adam Lambert, the season eight runner up from 2009. According to a Thursday report from Forbes, the 33-year-old singer made a pretax income of $10 million in 2015.

Carrie, who had the top spot in 2013 and 2014, took in $8 million.
The 32-year-old blonde country queen may come back on top next year as she has a tour planned for 2016 called Storytellers.
Kelly, 33, was far behind with $4 million, but that was only because she played three shows during Forbes’s eligibility window.

Also on the list were Scotty McCreery ($4 million), Phillip Phillips ($5 million) and Chris Daughtry. All three of these men toured heavily during the year.
Lambert's income for the year comes from the release of his third solo album The Original High, which came out on June.
The glam rocker also made a large chunk of his money by touring with Queen where he serves as lead singer.
She slowed down in 2015: Kelly Clarkson, seen here in April, was far behind with $4 million but that was only because she played three shows during Forbes’s eligibility window.
Early years: The 33-year-old pop star stood out in 2002 on the Fox program
In 2013 Lambert left RCA Records due to conflicts over the direction of his third LP.
Last year, Lambert spoke to Yahoo Music’s Reality Rocks about turning his career around after the split.
'I think one of things I realized after [sophomore album] Trespassing was I was a little disappointed with the commercial life of it,' he stated.
'I expected it to have more life. I was in a little bit of a rut because I was like, Well, what do I do? I was trying to figure out if I wanted to make this album or not. What I realized was, I don’t know how it came into my head, "You got to let go of the fear here. You know you’re always going to work."

'I had a conversation with a close friend of mine who kind of shook me and was like, "You’re always going to have work. You’re not going to starve. You’re going to be able to put food on your table. You have a talent you can put into a number of different things. Just relax and go for it."
'It was so simple, this idea of not putting so much pressure on everything and not being so hard on myself. I’ve gotten a lot more relaxed.'
