She’s one of 19 children but Jessa Duggar was not prepared for the pain of giving birth to a 9 pound, 11 ounce son.
The 23-year-old reality star allowed cameras to film her entire labour, which resulted in severe tearing and an emergency blood transfusion.
The graphic birth aired on Sunday’s episode of Jill & Jessa: Counting On, the third and final part of the TLC reality show.

After over 27 hours of agony Jessa’s baby boy Spurgeon Elliot arrived, four days past her due date, on November 5, 2015.
Spurgeon weighed a whopping 9 pounds, 11 ounces and was 21-1/4 inches long.
‘Just the size of his head and chest and shoulders, he was like a barrel,’ marveled Jessa’s mother Michelle, whose largest child was Jessa at a staggering 9 pounds 15 ounces.

When asked if childbirth was better or worse than expected, Jessa said ‘worse’ without hesitation.
‘I said to my mom, ''I do not know how you did this 19 times’',’ she said after she’d recovered.
Jessa was one of the stars of TLC's 19 Kids & Counting reality show.
She and her sister Jill were one of the five victims named in the police report from their brother Josh Duggar's molestation scandal that prompted TLC to cancel the series.

Three days after her due date Jessa began contractions.
‘This is intense…I’m a big baby, I don’t really like pain,’ she grimaced.
Deciding she was ‘done with being pregnant’ the family took a power walk for an hour to try and speed up the birth.

‘The walk was very beneficial,’ she said as her contractions grew closer together.
After 27 hours of labour Jessa was exhausted, but still video chatting with her many sisters.
‘Oh this is painful!,’ she yelled as she finally began to push.

Jordyn Duggar was the first to be informed of the baby’s gender.
‘It was a really special moment,’ said Jessa's husband Ben.
After the child was born Jessa ‘gushed’ with blood.

‘It was scary…this is a lot of blood all at once, I was a little bit nervous, maybe a lot nervous,’ said Ben.
Jessa's sister Jinger admitted she went into ‘panic mode.’
‘I’m thinking this can’t happen to my sister,’ she recalled.

Jessa was given an emergency transfusion and made a speedy recovery.
‘Within hours I felt 90 percent back to myself,’ she said bravely.
‘Ben was solid, he was there and he stuck by her side, it was really sweet,’ said Michelle, 49.

The show had opened with Ben and Jessa were preparing for the birth.
They talked of adoption, either domestically or internationally, with the Napier family.
‘I think it would be awesome if they adopted,’ said her sister Jill, 24.

Ben had apparently been harboring a dream to have ’15 sons’.
‘I think it would be awesome to have 15 sons,’ said Jessa, who was yet to experience the torment of childbirth.
The couple then did a professional photo shoot to document her pregnancy.

‘I’m four days away from my due date and we still haven’t decided on a name,’ said Jessa, who also gathered with her sisters for some cooking and socialising.
Josh’s wife Anna sobbed while talking about the last few months of turmoil and the stress of his molestation and infidelity scandals.
She likened the experience to giving birth.

‘I feel like I’ve been in labour for, like days…weeks, because when you’re in labour you’re just waiting for the next contraction…and then you go on, and I think there’s been a lot of that lately,’ she said.
Adding: ’We’ll see what god has in store for the future’.
Jessa praised Anna’s resilience.

‘It’s been very hard,’ she said.
Anna then suggested that Jessa save the placenta and make ‘a nice little steak’.

With just days to go before the due date he fretted about his role.
‘Am I going to be able to comfort her in her time of discomfort? It’s a little nerve wracking but I’m sure god will get us through it,’ he said.
Meanwhile Jill and her husband Derick Dillard were in Central America, where they visited a children’s home.

Derick, 26, practiced his Spanish at the facility.
‘My Spanish is not very good,’ he admitted.
The couple, who have a young son, Israel, were considering adopting more kids.
‘It was hard leaving, knowing, kind of, what these kids’ situation is,’ said Derick.

‘We’re definitely considering it [adoption],’ he added.
Jill later volunteered at a midwife clinic to give her experience for ‘the mission field’.
‘I hope to impart some skills and knowledge to people there,’ she grinned.

Derick met with his mother to shop in the local markets.
He struggled with the language barrier and finding rain boots for the entire family.
‘It’s been really neat having my mom here,’ he said.
As the three part series focusing on Jill and Jessa concluded, Josh was reportedly still undergoing sex addiction therapy in Rockford, Northern Illinois at a Christian recovery camp.
