Early signs point to fans wanting Kobe Bryant in the 2016 NBA all-star game.
According to figures released Friday, the Los Angeles Lakers star — listed as a forward on the ballot — is the leader (719,235) in first returns of voting for the mid-season showcase which will take place in Toronto on Feb. 14.
In November, Bryant announced he will retire at the end of this season.
The 37-year-old is a five-time champion and is third on the all-time scoring list. Furthermore, Bryant has spent his entire 20-year career with the Lakers.
Bryant was drafted 13th by the Charlotte Hornets in 1996, but was then traded to Los Angeles.
Bryant, who has battled various injuries the past few years, is averaging 17.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists and playing almost 31 minutes per game. However, he is shooting a career-worst 34.4 percent from the field.
While Bryant has received warm responses during his "farewell tour," the Lakers sit last in the Western Conference with a 5-24 record.
LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers leads all Eastern Conference players with 357,937 votes, while Golden State's Steph Curry leads Western Conference guards with 510,202 votes.
