In a rather eventful opening day at the world junior championships, America's Alex DeBrincat decided to get himself thrown out of the highly anticipated preliminary match against Canada.
The current top scorer in the OHL inexplicably speared Canadian forward Travis Konecny right in front of a referee in the opening frame.

It was an automatic five-minute major and a game misconduct for the 18-year-old Erie Otter centre. Canada was unable to capitalize on the power play.
