Tourist attractions left deserted after terror attacks

The Belgian capital Brussels has been in lockdown this week and its terror threat raised to the highest level amid warnings of an "imminent threat". While the city centre is usually bustling with shoppers and tourists in late November, photos taken this week show very empty streets. Brussels' Grand Place, a Unesco World Heritage Site notable for its 15th-century Gothic Town Hall, has instead been patrolled by heavily-armed security forces.

It is not the only place where tourists have stayed away. The November 13 terror attacks in Paris left the city's attractions closed for three days, while resorts in Tunisia and Egypt have been almost void of visitors following deadly incidents earlier this year.
