Sex before the Grey Cup game? Coaches titter at question

Edmonton Eskimos head coach Chris Jones knew the question was coming, but he couldn't help but blush and stammer.

It's a question asked every year at the Grey Cup head coaches news conference, but even the veteran reporter who asked it, the Edmonton Sun's Terry Jones, had trouble putting the words together.

"I would like to know, uh, your philosophy and your, uh, plans to tell your team, about what you think, how they should, uh, should they have sex at the Grey Cup or not?" he said.

Jones floundered equally in his response.

"I mean, uh, I, I was told about the question possibly [coming up] this morning and it kind of caught me off-guard again," he said. "I'll just have to reserve the things I'm going to say about my group, because I know the way they live. Next question."

Ottawa Redblacks coach Rick Campbell, however, was the only one who embraced the question without hesitation.

"It's my job to put guys in the best position to have success, whether that's on or off the field," he said.

"I guess I'm going to give advice more than a policy — and it mirrors our football team this year. The odds aren't good and no one gave you much of a chance, but if you pay attention to detail and you execute and you do it with zest and enthusiasm, anything can happen."

After a round of laughter and applause, Jones added: "How can you top that?"
