Juventus advanced to the knockout stages of the Champions League and moved above Manchester City into top spot in Group D, with a 1-0 win over the Premier League side on Wednesday.
Mario Mandzukic scored the only goal of an entertaining game in the 18th minute, and Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon did well to prevent City from levelling.
Both sides also hit the woodwork.
Juventus moved onto 11 points, two more than already-qualified City, heading into the final group match. It also has a better head-to-head record, having won 2-1 in Manchester.
In the other Group D match, Borussia Moenchengladbach beat Sevilla 4-2 — which would have ensured Juventus progressed even if the Italian team had lost.
Juventus visits Sevilla in the final match, with City hosting 'Gladbach.
Ronaldo leads Real Madrid
Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals and set up two more as Real Madrid weathered a late Shakhtar Donetsk revival to win 4-3 in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Already qualified for the knockout stages, Real's win ensures it will finish top of Group A, while defeat ends Shakhtar's slim qualifying hopes.
Ronaldo opened the scoring with an 18th-minute header off a flick from Gareth Bale, before assisting first Luka Modric and then Dani Carvajal for goals in the space of three second-half minutes.
Ronaldo's second goal in the 70th minute made it 4-0 before Shakhtar's comeback began. First Alex Teixeira scored from the penalty spot before Dentinho's header cut the deficit to 4-2. Teixeira struck again in the 88th minute but Real held on for the win.
Man United held scoreless
Manchester United failed to break down a stubborn PSV Eindhoven in a 0-0 draw in the Champions League on Wednesday, missing the chance to qualify from Group B with a game to spare.
After wasting a string of openings and then fading against the Dutch champions, United may have to beat Wolfsburg in their group closer in Germany in two weeks to reach the knockout stage.
Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard wasted United's best chances at Old Trafford, before the home team began to feel the effects of its high-tempo start and PSV started to look dangerous in the final 25 minutes. A draw will delight PSV, which is third — a point behind United and two behind Wolfsburg with one round remaining. PSV finishes at home to CSKA Moscow.
Atletico Madrid advances
Antoine Griezmann scored a goal in each half as Atletico Madrid defeated Galatasaray 2-0 to advance to the knockout stage of the Champions League on Wednesday.
Griezmann scored in the 13th and 65th minutes at the Vicente Calderon Stadium, both times set up by team captain Gabi. The Frenchman opened the scoring with a header and sealed the victory with a shot from close range.
Replays showed that Griezmann appeared to be offside when he scored the second goal.
All four of Griezmann's goals in this year's Champions League have come against the Turkish team.
Atletico Madrid reached 10 points from five matches in Group C, while Galatasaray was eliminated with four points.
