Dallas quarterback Tony Romo was knocked out of the game against Carolina with an injury to the same shoulder that sidelined him for seven games this season.
Romo, who threw three interceptions and had two of them returned for touchdowns, didn't get up after he was sacked by linebacker Thomas Davis on the final play of the third quarter Thursday.
Romo was favoring his left shoulder as he walked off the field, and the team said he was being evaluated for a left collarbone injury and wouldn't return.
The Cowboys lost all seven games that Romo missed with a broken left collarbone before winning in his return at Miami last week. He was already having a rough game, going 11 of 21 with 106 yards with a 27.2 passer rating.
Romo was replaced by Matt Cassel, who started four games in his absence.
