Canadian marathoner Hannah upgraded to Pan Am Games bronze medal

Canada's Rachel Hannah will receive a bronze medal from the marathon at Toronto's Pan American Games.

The Toronto runner finished fourth in the race last July, but winner Gladys Tejeda of Peru was stripped of her gold medal after a failed doping test administered during the Games.

It was Hannah's first ever attempt at the marathon.

"Congratulations to Rachel. Like the rest of the team she gave it her all at the Pan Am Games, and although after the fact, will be rewarded and recognized for her efforts," said Rob Guy, Athletics Canada chief executive officer.

"I am looking forward to another exciting season for her. As we have been saying all along, Athletics Canada is committed to continue working with the IAAF, WADA, the CCES and other international federations to rid the sport of cheaters, ensuring that Canadian athletes are on an even playing field at all competitions."

She'll receive her medal on Saturday in Kingston, Ont., during a special ceremony at the Canadian cross-country championships.

Adrianna Da Silva of Brazil will be upgraded to gold, while American Lindsay Flanagan will receive the silver.

Hannah's Pan Am bronze pushes the Canadian track and field team's total to 27 medals, an all-time best result for the team.
