In a sneak-peek clip, the funnyman springs a heartfelt surprise on Simon, 56, while the head judge is backstage having his hair and make-up done.

His words immediately pique Alesha Dixon's interest in a nearby chair, and she turns to watch what's about to unfold with a smile on her face.

On being presented with the album, Simon suspiciously says: 'You put this together yourself?'
He turns the first page to see a picture of the pair cosying up while David holds a cute black dog and bursts into laughter.
Keeping a straight face, David responds earnestly: 'It's a nice shot isn't it? It's a nice picture.'

The playful scene is just the latest moment of comedy served up by David in the current series which began with the comedian turning up to a press launch dressed as Simon.
And David even claimed Simon's happier persona this series was due to the fact he was having 'regular sex' with his girlfriend Lauren Silverman.
