Dorothea Wierer of Italy shot cleanly for her second biathlon World Cup career victory, beating Kaisa Makarainen of Finland by nearly a minute in Thursday's 15-kilometre race in Ruhpolding, Germany.
Wierer took advantage of calm conditions to shoot quickly in all four stops on the range and covered the distance in 40 minutes, 19.9 seconds. She also won the same event at the opening weekend in Oestersund, Sweden.
Makarainen missed one target in the first stop and finished 54.8 seconds behind the Italian.
Gabriela Soukalova of the Czech Republic also had one miss and finished one minute, 9.9 seconds behind.
Rosanna Crawford, of Canmore, Alta., was the top Canadian in the filed, finishing 18th, with two misses and 2:52.6 behind Wierer.
Megan Tandy, of Prince George, BC, was 73rd, Julia Ransom, of Kelowna, B.C., was 78th, and Zina Kocher, of Red Deer, Alta., was 94th.
Soukalova retained the overall World Cup lead with 551 points after 12 of 26 events. Marie Dorin Habert of France, who finished sixth after missing two targets, is second at 506 points.
