Canada's Eugenie Bouchard has earned a spot in the semifinals of the Hobart International tennis tournament.

The 21-year-old native of Westmount, Que., scored a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Italy's Camila Giorgi on Thursday.

The tournament is a warmup event ahead of this month's Australian Open.

Bouchard, ranked 47th in the world, will next face Slovakia's Dominica Cibulkova.

The Australian Open begins on Jan. 18.

Bouchard had reached the quarter-finals of the Shenzhen Open in China last week in her first major action since suffering a concussion at the U.S. Open last September.
