Another friend, Brett Powers, added that Michael had a complex. 'He thought everything was owned by the Rothschilds and the Rockefellers, and we were getting robbed of our constitutional rights.'
The friend added: 'He was probably getting sick of getting arrested and thought, "I gotta get out of here."'
A source added that the younger brother of The Hills vet needed help.
'Mike felt he wasn't able to maintain sobriety alone and needed to go into a rehab facility,' the insider said.
Tough stuff: Another friend, Brett Powers, added that Michael had a complex. 'He thought everything was owned by the Rothschilds and the Rockefellers, and we were getting robbed of our constitutional rights'; here Kristin and Michael are seen as kids
'It's unclear what his state of mind was during this time and that has them puzzled. He has had his ups and downs but was turning his life around.'
Another source added: 'There was always drama with him.'
The National Enquirer also reported Michael suffered from paranoia, adding he thought the government had their eye on him.
A source said, 'A few times you'd see him in the backyard ranting that the CIA was coming to get him. He seemed paranoid, completely out of it.'
'My little angel': Kristin took to Instagram to share a sweet message about her daughter Saylor
Friend Steve Doyle told the publication: 'He wanted out of California and was struggling with alcohol and wanted to get away from everything.'
Kristin has been having a hard time with the loss.
On Monday the blonde beauty said her newborn daughter has given her 'so much strength' as she shared a picture of her baby girl Saylor James, who was born on November 23.
She wrote: 'My little angel, Saylor. She has been my light throughout this whole thing and has given me so much strength. Thank you baby girl for coming when u did.'
Kristin also has sons Camden, three, and Jaxon, 17 months, with husband Jay Cutler.
Law enforcement officers revealed last week that Michael most probably passed away after he was left exposed to the elements.
He needed assistance: A source added that the younger brother of The Hills vet needed help. 'Mike felt he wasn't able to maintain sobriety alone and needed to go into a rehab facility,' the insider said
There were no signs of trauma and police didn't discover drugs or alcohol where his body was found, according to TMZ, which reports that law enforcement officers are of the belief it was the cold temperatures that ultimately killed Michael.
However, the Grand County Sheriff's Office has still to officially confirm the cause of death.
In a statement released yesterday, the office said: 'At approximately 10:30 a.m. search crews located remains believed to be that of Michael Cavallari.
'At this time, the body is being transported to the Office of the Utah Medical Examiner for positive identification and to determine the cause of death.
'The search crews were searching the Salt Wash area, near exit 175 on I-70 in Grand County. The terrain where the body was located is a steep and very rocky area.'
