David Duchovny would love more X-Files and the season finale will leave more questions

David Duchovny has given perhaps the clearest indication so far that fans haven't seen the last of Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

The special six-episode series of the X-Files has its season finale Monday but the actor says everyone involved is open to doing more.

'I would love to. We all would. We'll just see what happens,' he told Ellen DeGeneres, in an interview  set to air on her daytime chat show today.

Duchovny explained that with his co-star Gillian Anderson now living in London, and with their other work commitments, another series of the hit show is dependent on being able to juggle everyone's schedules.

'We're all open to it,' he stressed.

The original series ended in 2002 after 10 seasons and Duchovny and Anderson also starred in two feature films, The X-Files: Fight The Future in 1998 and The X-Files: I Want To Believe in 2008.

As for revisiting characters they hadn't played in la decade for the limited six-episode reboot, Duchovny said it was a seamless transition.

'Of all the things that have changed and the work that's come in between, when were doing the show this time around, it just felt like the old show,' he said.

In the years since he left the series about UFOs, alien conspiracies and the paranormal, Duchovny has worked steadily in film and television and raised two children with his now ex-wife Tea Leoni.

His daughter West is 16 and son Miller is 13, and just like any father of teens, he's experiencing a little of the generation gap.

He told Ellen that his daughter told him to make sure his eyebrows were 'on fleek' for his appearance on Ellen.

'I have no idea what that means,' he said. 'It's like a joke we have because she'll never tell me what fleek means.'

It was left to the comedienne to explain that it means 'on point' or 'perfect'.

The X-Files reboot has been a major ratings success for Fox, with an average of 9.9 million viewers an episode, according to Variety.

That means it's likely the network will want to bring the show back for another season, even if it's just another limited one.

And series creator Chris Carter, who wrote and directed Monday's sixth and final episode, has suggested that the series event finale will likely keep fans hungry for more.

'I don't think it's 'it' for Mulder and Scully, but I have to say, there's no guarantee that we're coming back,' Carter told E! News. "

'So, while I see Mulder and Scully and stories down the way, we end up on a very big cliff.'

In a teaser clip released ahead of the finale, that airs at 8 p.m. Monday on Fox, a battered and bruised Fox Mulder is seen holding a gun to the head of Cigarette Smoking Man, while Dana Scully is faced with an epidemic that's killing everyone.

Scully goes to Mulder's home to find it's been ransacked and turned upside down, and when she calls Mulder, he's seen in a car parked by the side of the road, with a black eye and bruises, and not answering his phone.

It's an episode that brings together all the conspiracy theories, Duchovny said, but with a new twist.

'This time around it's a conspiracy of men. The same cabal of men have taken alien technology and are going to use it themselves to enslave the rest of humanity,' the actor explained in a behind the scenes promo.
