Speed skater Denny Morrison speaks publicly for 1st time since stroke

Four-time Olympic medallist Denny Morrison will speak publicly in Calgary for the first time since suffering a stroke in Salt Lake City, Utah roughly two weeks ago.

The April 23 hospitalization was the second major one in less than a year for the long-track speed skater.

The cause of Morrison's stroke is still unknown. However, a Calgary doctor believes there could be a connection between the stroke and Morrison's serious motorcycle accident last year.

On May 7, 2015, Morrison crashed his motorcycle into a left-turning car and nearly died.

The 30-year-old broke his left femur, punctured a lung, tore an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), fractured a bone near his spine, bruised his liver and kidneys and suffered a concussion.

Morrison had shown signs of a strong recovery.

In mid-March of this year, Morrison raced for the first time since that accident at the Canada Cup Olympic Oval Finale in Calgary.
