Jagr signs on for 1 more year with Panthers

Jaromir Jagr will play at least one more season in the NHL.

The Florida Panthers announced Thursday they've signed Jagr, who will turn 45 next season, to a one-year deal.

Jagr will reportedly make $4 million US with the possibility of earning more in bonuses. He made $3.5 million this season.

The ageless Czech forward is coming off a fine season in which he tallied 27 goals — his highest total since 2006-07 — and a team-high 66 points. In the process he overtook Gordie Howe for No. 3 on the NHL's all-time points list (Jagr now has 1,868) and Brett Hull for third in all-time goals (749).

Jagr also helped Florida reach the playoffs for only the second time since 2001. The Panthers lost in six games to the New York Islanders.

"Jaromir has had a tremendous influence on our younger players and has been a key offensive contributor on our team," Panthers head coach Gerard Gallant said in a news release. "We are happy to have him back as we look to build off this year's playoff appearance."
