Photographer Roger Minick set out in the 1980s and 90s to capture the heart and soul of road tripping in America, dedicating his project, Sightseer Series, as a nostalgic time capsule to the era.
While his work features famous sites such as the Grand Canyon and national parks, the striking fashion and hairstyles of the time and the subjects in the pictures are the true stars of the collection.

The bold photographer, who was travelling around with his wife in a VW camper, said he compiled his Sightseer Series by approaching tourists and reassuring them that he was not about to sell anything.
He then asked to take their picture and quickly told them that he was intending for the project to be a tribute to how Americans looked at the end of the twentieth century.
'I would spend long hours staked out at overlooks, looking to match up just the right person or couple or group with just the right background,' Minick wrote on his website.
'Sometimes it was simply the style of clothing or the colours people chose to wear that caught my attention. Sometimes it was their mode of travel or the things they brought with them––their cameras, cell phones, radios, binoculars, strollers, pets––that attracted me.
'Often I was attracted to the interaction within a group, hoping I could somehow capture a certain family dynamic on film.'
While some may have been enamoured with their spectacular surroundings, the collection features its fair share of tourists who look thoroughly unimpressed with the view.
