Liam Neeson's son Micheál revealed as star in LG Super Bowl 50 commercial

He’s appeared on-screen with thousands of actors in his 30 plus year career.

But Liam Neeson, 63, got a brand new co-star in LG’s Man From The Future commercial that aired during the Super Bowl on Sunday - his 20-year-old son Micheál.

‘Being able to work with my son Micheál has been absolutely wonderful and quite unique,’ Neeson said in a LG behind-the-scenes YouTube video. ‘It’s also our first time acting together and it’s great to share the screen with him.’

It was an extra special experience for the renowned actor and his son as the seven-year anniversary approaches of the tragic death of Neeson's wife Natasha Richardson.

Natasha, mother of two boys Micheál and Daniel (now 19), died age 45 in March 2009 after hitting her head during a skiing lesson in Quebec, Canada.

The mother of two, who was not wearing a helmet, hit the left side of her face tearing a blood vessel in the brain, which would start as a slow leak and later prove fatal.

But initially she appeared unhurt and got up laughing. Unaware of the seriousness of the injury, she refused to see a doctor and even signed a medical form saying that she did not need help.

She received emergency treatment at the Centre Hospitalier Laurentien, nearby, and was then transferred to Montreal's Sacre Coeur Hospital.

Neeson immediately flew from the set of his the film he was shooting, Chloe, in Toronto, but she died some time later.

Back on the set of the LG commercial, the family affair continued with award winning producer/director Ridley Scott serving as the commercial’s executive producer who teamed up with his son, Jake, who directed the spot.

The commercial shows the Michael Collins star as a man from the future giving advice to his present-day self while promoting the new technology of the LG OLED TV.

Micheál described working with his Oscar nominated father as a ‘very cool experience.’

‘It’s weird seeing him differently to him making me do the dishes or waking me up in the morning,’ he said. ‘In this I am supposed to possibly be him in the past and him as me in the future.’

The Run All Night star described his character in the commercial as an enigmatic man from the future that’s traveled back to the present day on a very important mission.

‘He represents that inner-appeal, that curiosity we have to find out about the future,' the Taken star said. 'So we go after it and we want to know what’s out there.'

Jake, who has previously directed many Budweiser commercials, said it was useful to have father and son on screen together.

‘It’s truthful, authentic relationship already exists,' Jake said. 'Michael’s innocence against Liam’s obvious wisdom and experience is a nice dynamic attention created through that.’

Micheál Neeson is looking forward to his first major film role later this year, The Rising: 1916.

Meanwhile Liam has a handful of film projects with 2016 release including the Martin Scorsese directed historical drama Silence.
