Raquel Rodriguez had two goals and Costa Rica held off a late charge from Mexico for a 2-1 victory Monday to secure a spot in the semifinals at the CONCACAF women's Olympic qualifying tournament.

If Canada can clinch first place in Group B with a victory over Guatemala on Tuesday (streaming on the CBC Sports app at 8:30 p.m. ET), they will meet Costa Rica on Friday to play for a spot at the Rio Olympics.

Maribel Dominguez scored for Mexico, which is missing out on the semifinals for the first time in the history of the tournament for the North and Central America and Caribbean regions.

Rodriquez, recently the second overall pick in the NWSL by Sky Blue FC, scored in the ninth minute to give Costa Rica the early lead. A MAC Hermann Trophy winner, Rodriguez was co-captain of the Penn State team that won the 2015 NCAA title.

She scored again on a penalty kick in the 57th minute for Las Ticas, giving her five goals for the tournament.

The United States, which already secured the group's other semifinal spot, plays its final group stage match Monday night against Puerto Rico.
