Canadian dominance was on display at the 2016 LAAX Open in Switzerland in the men's slopestyle competition on Saturday. Canada claimed six of the top seven spots in the field of 12 competitors.
Olympic bronze medallist Mark McMorris took the top spot and walks away with $75,000 US -- though the win didn't come easy to him.
There was a significant weather delay and McMorris also a bad fall on his second run. However, he was still able to pull off a huge score of 91.40 on his final run with a switch backside 1260 melon, frontside triple cork 1440 mute and a backside triple cork 1440 indy.
"It's a miracle it worked out on my last run and I'm so thankful," said the five time X Games gold medallist in a Laax Open press release. "We're all pushing the level so far. All these guys are my good friends and I'm happy for everyone out here today."
Not only did Canada cascade the top spots, but the youth movement was alson on display. McMorris, 22, was followed by 20-year-old Tyler Nicholson of North Bay, Ont, and 23-year-old Sebastian Toutant of of Montreal.
Fourth place Darcy Sharpe of Vancouver Island, B.C., and fifth place Mike Ciccarelli of Ancaster, Ont. are 19 and 18, respectively.
