An eleventh hour bid is being made to save Birmingham Central Library from demolition – and turn it into an art gallery, hotel or even a museum of Midlands heavy metal. Campaigners hope councillors will see the building's potential as a tourist attraction and claim that brutalist architecture (loved and loathed in seemingly equal measure) is witnessing a surge in popularity.
