London's most photogenic locations

Researchers Alexander Kachkaev and Jo Wood at City University London plotted more than 1.5 million pictures taken by 45,000 users on Flickr, the popular photo-sharing site.

Like camera flashes in a dark arena, these lines and clusters expose patterns of human activity.

A closer look at central London shows rings of activity around the Round Pond in Kensington Gardens and The Serpentine in Hyde Park. Marble Arch, Hyde Park Corner and the museums of South Kensington are other hot spots.

Soho is mostly captured at night, while St James's Park, Parliament Square, the South Bank and St Paul's Cathedral are a sea of yellow dots.

King's Cross is often photographed, perhaps by eager tourists just off the Eurostar.

The Olympic Park in Stratford is often visited during the day. The rest of East London is relatively tourist-free.

Canary Wharf, the Emirates Air Line, Greenwich Park, and the O2 Arena are the big draws in this corner of London.
