American star Lindsey Vonn won the season-opening World Cup downhill Friday in a one minute 50.5 seconds.

It was Vonn's 16th career victory at Lake Louise, Alta.

Cornelia Huetter of Austria was second in 1:51.08. Her teammate Ramona Siebenhofer was third, 1.07 seconds back of Vonn.

Larisa Yurkiw, of Owen Sound, Ont., finished in 12th place, 1.94 behind Vonn.
