Calgary speed skater Ted-Jan Bloemen will be out for two to three weeks following an injury to his left shin.

Bloemen sustained a laceration to his shin when one of his Canadian men's team pursuit teammates fell during warm up Friday at the ISU World Cup long track speed skating competition.

He was assessed by the Canadian team's medical staff before going to a hospital for further exams and stitches.

Bloemen, who set the world record in the 10,000 metres two weeks ago in Salt Lake City, will go back to his native country the Netherlands to rest.

He will miss two World Cup events and is expected to be back in Canada by the week of Dec. 14.
